Beverly Hills, 1983. Sylvia, a beautiful journalist, is head over heels in love with Marc, who reciprocates. But Sylvia needs adventure. Wanting to change her life, she takes off for Sao Paolo on the pretext of having an article to write, and undergoes cosmetic surgery. Taking the name Emmanuelle and with her new body and different face, she has a series of arousing, sensual encounters. With this new identity comes a sexual awakening which is complicated by her memories of Marc. She travels round Brazil then Guadeloupe with Donna, a psychiatrist in whose care she has been placed, in search of a new identity. But has Emmanuelle not retained part of Sylvia's personality?
